Structured in Form, Designed for Life

Valextra collaborates with six designers from China to celebrate Valextra’s iconic glasses case.

To highlight our glasses versatility and enduring appeal, Valextra collaborated with six designers from China, each invited to select their preferred colour and share their personal perspective. From creative studios to urban locations, from moments of focus to moments of leisure, the glasses case seamlessly integrated into their routines, embodying both structure and spontaneity.

Through their eyes, Structured in Form, Designed for Life becomes a story of craftsmanship and contemporary living—where heritage savoir-faire meets the authentic expressions of today’s designers.

Scott Hsu — Co-founder of Spatial Praxes

“Meeting practical needs with effortless elegance”

For Scott Hsu, design is at its best when it discreetly solves the overlooked inconveniences of daily life. The Valextra glasses case resolved a simple yet persistent concern: the fear of sunglasses slipping when leaning forward. Lightweight and refined, it replaces the bulk of traditional hard cases, becoming an indispensable part of his minimalist commuting routine.

Zhou Anbin — Furniture Designer, Founder of DakHaan

“Refined details that reveal elegant craftsmanship”

Holding the Valextra glasses case in hand, Zhou Anbin is struck by its balance of proportion and detail. The curved edge nestles perfectly in the palm, merging comfort with beauty. For someone who rarely carries a bag, it transforms sunglasses into a daily essential once again, demonstrating how craftsmanship can redefine the role of an accessory.

Xu Mingyu — Product & Furniture Designer, Founder of MINGYU XU STUDIO

“Seamlessly adapting from business to leisure”

Xu Mingyu finds perfection in restraint. The precision of the glasses case, from its smooth opening to its architectural proportions, is for him a testament to Valextra’s craftsmanship. Structured yet practical, protective yet easy to access, it has become his trusted travel companion—adaptable from the rigor of business to the ease of leisure.

Henny van Nistelrooy — Founding Partner & Design Director, Studio HVN

“A versatile aesthetic of utility for every occasion”

Navigating daily between cycling and client meetings, Henny requires objects that transition effortlessly across settings. The Valextra glasses case does just that: lightweight and unobtrusive when worn on the move, yet refined enough to complement a tailored outfit. It embodies an understated versatility that supports the rhythms of modern urban life.

Chen Tongyi — Furniture Designer, Founder of Tongyichenstudio

“The ideal supporting role for cycling around West Lake”

For Chen Tongyi, weekends spent cycling around West Lake are when design meets pleasure. Strapped to a messenger bag, the glasses case becomes both a functional companion and a stylish accent. With hand-painted lacquered edges and a distinctive button closure, it reflects Valextra’s dedication to craftsmanship in even the most subtle details.

Sean Yo-Yo — Design Director of Insdim design office

“The emotional value of an object grows only through use”

Sean Yo-Yo believes objects earn their meaning through lived experience. His Valextra glasses case is now seamlessly attached to his all-purpose work bag, replacing the rigid case once hidden away. In becoming a constant presence, it exemplifies how refined design can merge utility with the intangible bond that grows between people and the things they carry.

Through the perspectives of six designers, the Valextra glasses case takes on unique expressions, uncovering a deeper bond between people and objects. When beauty and function find harmony in any setting, that is when design becomes truly moving.
